Friday 6-8 PM/Talk and Q&A - How Does Yoga Work?

Did you ever wonder how yoga actually works? Are you curios about how bending your back can possibly elevate your soul? How can jump-throughs be a tool to self-realization and is it necessary to have a spiritual intention to practice yoga? In this opening session Tim talks about the building blocks of Ashtanga Yoga and our practice. Drawing upon the authority of yoga, Sri Patanjali, Tim will take a dive into the Yoga Sutras in the attempt to dig some answers out for everyday use. We will finish with a Q&A. All Levels Welcome.

Saturday 8-10AM/Mysore Class
Named after the city where Krishnamacharya and Pattabhi Jois developed their yoga method, this is is the classic way Ashtanga Yoga is taught. A melting pot of yoga practitioners of all levels from beginner to advanced, this class sets out to offer personalized guidance to every practitioner at exactly where you need it most. Build relationship with yourself, your practice and your teacher in this inspiring energy. Saturday 1-3PM/Fundamentals (breath, bandha, drishti and fundamental asanas)
A solid foundation builds a strong house. The direct path to a successful yoga practice is understanding of yoga's basic building blocks - breath, posture and focal point, also called ‘Tristana' in sanskrit. Embodied ability of the basics is furthermore the key to success in advanced asana and without it every asana is unnecessarily unwieldy. In this class we take a dive into these three essential mechanics, their underlying principles and amazing benefits to everyone who allows them their proper attention. Learn how to use Tristana to make your practice better suited to your personal needs and vision.

Sunday 1-3PM/Sthira Sukham & Backbending
Develop your ‘sthirasukha’, your firmness and comfort, for aptitude and health in your yoga. The practice starts with directing your mind towards the essential. We will look at what it takes to bend backwards towards comfort and without fear. The key to deep backbends are available to you through the integration of sound anatomical principles, healthy alignment & technique and accurate knowledge of your inner body. The movement mechanics of bending your spine are the key to an enhanced flow of energy and in this class you will begin to explore you natural potential for deep backbends with simplicity, safety, support and enthusiasm. The workshop aims at developing tools to a personal and balanced practice. All levels welcome.

About Tim

Tim is the co-founder and captain of the world-wide recognized Miami Life Center and of the newly opened Miami Yoga Garage - a new ambitious Shala and cultural house in Miami's fun Wynwood district. He has practiced yoga since 1994 and Ashtanga Since 1999. Authorized to teach by Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois he explores core concepts and modern boundaries of Patanjali’s yoga teachings alike. A practitioner of Ashtanga Yoga’s Advanced A Series Tim finds Ashtanga’s traditional method an exceptional path towards healing, wisdom and self-realisation. Drawing upon his past as an internationally successful dancer and acclaimed choreographer, anatomy, alignment and technique is his second nature.
